Jazz Fest is coming soon! Words on Beveled

I'm very excited to bring my most recent project, Beveled to play at the Chicago Jazz Festival on Thu. Sept. 3rd. I've attended this fabulous festival every year that I've lived here in Chicago and have always been impressed with the diversity and quality of the lineup. It's truly an honor to finally be a part of it! More info here:

Also, in case you missed Beveled in the media, here are what the critics have to say about the band's album:

"...this unusual instrumentation creates a striking, elegant timbre, like dark polished wood and brass. Beveled plays Davis’s tunes with measured resolve and crisp precision, so that solos emerge from the extended ensemble passages like comets streaking the sky." - Peter Margasak, Chicago Reader

"Beveled is the equivalent of a modern jazz haiku, lovely, spare, and endlessly deep." - Carol Banks Weber, axs.com

"Chicago trumpeter James Davis did well in choosing the name “Beveled” for his new sextet: the compositions are carefully etched, with subtle angles and incisions, and the unique instrumentation surrounds them with layered depth. It’s the equivalent of carved wood frames in warm colors." - Neil Tesser, chicagomusic.org
