These will be released together as an EP entitled "Remain Calm". Recorded at a time of much uncertainty and everyone trying to figure out what the world was dealing with in terms of the pandemic, the music does reflect some of these feelings.

The title cut from this EP was captured with video as well, which can be checked out HERE.

The four tracks will be found on my bandcamp page HERE.
James Davistag:jamesdavismusic.net,2005:Post/52901682018-06-11T22:00:13-05:002024-03-12T07:42:01-05:00Disappearing Roads EP and Logan Square Arts Fest
I'm proud and excited to release Disappearing Roads this Friday, June 15th! This EP (I think we're calling it an 'EP' just because there's only four pieces...but it's 47 minutes of music - much more than many 'albums'...I digress...) is a compilation of tracks from a residency at The Whistler in January of 2017 and features some of my all-time favorite collaborators: Dave Miller (guitar), Rob Clearfield (keys), Matt Ulery (bass) and Quin Kirchner (drums).

The Logan Square Arts Festival is happening June 22-24 and JDQ will play at 2:15 on Sunday the 24th. This festival has become quite the party - tons of great music, food, art and vendors are there. If you live in the neighborhood you'll probably see all your friends there. I hope you can come check us and the fest out!
James Davistag:jamesdavismusic.net,2005:Post/46802762017-04-21T13:24:59-05:002023-12-10T12:46:26-06:00Upcoming Shows this Week! There are a couple of shows happening these last couple weeks of April that I'm very excited about. First off, on April 21st (tonight!) I'll be playing with Matt Ulery's Pollinator opening for Rebirth Brass Band at Martyrs'. There will be much music keeping your noggin' bobbing *and your feet tapping (other movements highly encouraged as well).

Sunday April 23rd I'll be hitting at the Whistler in Logan Sq with Greg Ward's "Capturing Sunlight", a hefty sized band featuring some of my favorite musicians in Chicago.

Sunday April 30th I'm leading a super fun afternoon of family friendly Jazz at Township in Logan Sq. First set we'll explore the traditional Jazz instruments and how they interact, and the second set we'll play some music to try and capture the attention of the full family.

See you around! Words on Beveled I'm very excited to bring my most recent project, Beveled to play at the Chicago Jazz Festival on Thu. Sept. 3rd. I've attended this fabulous festival every year that I've lived here in Chicago and have always been impressed with the diversity and quality of the lineup. It's truly an honor to finally be a part of it! More info here:

Also, in case you missed Beveled in the media, here are what the critics have to say about the band's album:

"...this unusual instrumentation creates a striking, elegant timbre, like dark polished wood and brass. Beveled plays Davis’s tunes with measured resolve and crisp precision, so that solos emerge from the extended ensemble passages like comets streaking the sky." - Peter Margasak, Chicago Reader

"Beveled is the equivalent of a modern jazz haiku, lovely, spare, and endlessly deep." - Carol Banks Weber, axs.com

"Chicago trumpeter James Davis did well in choosing the name “Beveled” for his new sextet: the compositions are carefully etched, with subtle angles and incisions, and the unique instrumentation surrounds them with layered depth. Consisting of two flugelhorns, two bass clarinets, bass and drums, Beveled will excite the imaginations of all listeners as it challenges traditional instrument roles while staying tethered to a sensibility of tuneful and rhythmic audacity. An album release show will be November 21st, 2014 at Constellation in Chicago.
The musicians in Beveled are actively involved in many facets of the Chicago music scene, performing and recording in many other creative music collaborations.

Tickets/event: http://www.constellation-chicago.com/event/686173-beveled-chicago/
James Davis
